Did you ever get a gift certificate and have it expire on you before you can use it? Well, that’s exactly what happened here. Expiration dates are often arbitrarily set at a year and have no reason that they could not be extended. I know I have been on the other side of this situation when I have worked for places that issued gift certificates and always worked something out if they expired before the person was able to use them. Hopefully that will be the case here.
Hotel Monaco, part of the Kimpton Hotel and Restaurant Group, is a fabulous hotel. I haven’t stayed at the Alexandria, VA location, but I’ve stayed at several others around the country. In fact, my brother held his wedding at the Hotel Monaco in downtown DC in 2010 after I recommended that he and his wife check it out.
Dear Mr. Hurlburt,
I bid on and won a one night stay at your hotel as part of a charity auction.
Over the holidays I was doing some year-end cleaning and found the certificate (copy enclosed) and realized it expired on Oct. 10, 2014. I’m writing today to ask if you would be so kind as to extend the validity so that I will have the opportunity to use it.
Your consideration is much appreciated,
Sincerely,
Reed Sandridge
