Day 167: Anonymous note left at blood lab

Yesterday was the Worldwide Day of Giving. It’s a day that celebrates altruistic giving and was born out of my first year-long project: the Year of Giving. It was a lot of fun and if you want to read the story about who I gave my $10 to, check out my blog post yesterday.

Today, I continued the giving. I went to GW Faculty Associates lab this morning to give some blood, well not really give, but have some collected to check my cholesterol. I don’t enjoy getting my blood taken, and don’t think I’m alone on this, so I thought I would leave an anonymous letter with a little surprise inside.

Day 167

Hello!

Nobody likes to have lab work done – so here’s a little something to brighten your day. Who doesn’t like to find an envelope with money inside?

Enjoy!

Day 157: Anonymous letter left on Metro

Day 157-2On my way to watch a soccer game with my friend Steve and several others, I left an envelope on the seat of a Metro car as I exited the train at Stadium Armory. I think it was the Orange Line, but it could have been Blue or Silver. Hopefully this made someone’s day.

Day 157

“Always borrow money from a pessimist. He won’t expect it back.” –Oscar Wilde

Day 157-3Here’s $10 for you – I don’t expect it back either. Research shows that everyone enjoys opening letters that have cash inside. Enjoy!

Day 154: Anthony Kaczynski

Back on May 21st I left an anonymous note at a bar in Charlestown, MA. Along with my note, I included a five dollar bill for the finder to get themself a refreshing beverage. I’ve left similar anonymous notes in various places but have yet to ever hear from the people who have found them – until today.

Anthony Kaczynski, a musician who says he plays regularly at the Tavern at the End of the World where I left the letter, dropped me a note in the mail along with his band Fireking’s CD. Sweet!

Their music is loud, energetic rock n roll. I enjoyed it, but I have a feeling that seeing them live is the real treat. You can check out Fireking here. Enjoy.

Day 154

Anthony,

Thank you for your letter – I’m glad you found my note at the Tavern at the End of the World. The Year of Letters has been an awesome project and making random connections like this one is just one of the many cool things that have happened along the way. I enjoyed your CD, thank you for sending that. You guys rock! I’d love to see you guys live. If you ever venture down to our nation’s capital, let me know!

Keep on kicking ass!

Day 141: Anonymous letter left at Tavern at the End of the World

Tavern at the End of the World, Charlestown, MA.

When I travel, it’s easy to fall behind on writing letters. Sometimes it’s easier to leave some anonymous notes around the cities that I’m visiting. I did that on Monday night at the Met’s game and tonight I thought I would leave a note at the Red Sox game, however, Sox tickets were going for no less than $40 so I skipped the game.

I’m staying in Charlestown, MA tonight. There’s not a whole lot of places to go for dinner near my hotel – to be honest, there is only one place: Tavern at the End of the World. It’s a good join – they had some nice live music and I had an interesting chat with a guy fresh back from a trip to Florida on his Harley.

I ate dinner there and enjoyed a couple of local beers. I took a few minutes while I was there to write today’s letter.

Day 141

Hello!

I’ve made a commitment to write someone a handwritten letter or note every day for a year. Today, my note is to you. If you’re here at the Tavern at the End of the World, you’re probably thirsty – you know, there is not a man, woman or child in these United States of America who doesn’t enjoy a nice cold, refreshing beverage. Your next one is on me.

Cheers,
Reed

Day 125: Anonymous letter left at Washington, D.C. Trader Joe’s

I placed the letter under a package of the sinfully delicious TJ's ice cream sandwiches.

I placed the letter under a package of the sinfully delicious TJ’s ice cream sandwiches.

Trader Joe’s is a strange but wonderful grocery store. On one hand, I get frustrated with them due to their limited selection. But just when I’m starting to take my business elsewhere I find some really awesome product. Or one of their quirky employees will make my day. I think that’s really what wins me over, the people. They actually seem happy there.

I left an anonymous letter with a five dollar bill at the Trader Joe’s in the West End neighborhood of DC today. I placed it under a box of Trader Joe’s Sublime Ice Cream Sandwiches. They are amazing and a crew member there once told me that they saved her marriage on more than one occasion. Ok, so that might be a stretch, but I figured if they could bring some happiness to someone, I’d like to make that happen.

By the way, if you’re a fan of TJ’s, check out my letter on Day 31 to Trader Joe’s CEO Dan Bane.

Day 125

Hey there!

I see you are checking out the Sublime Ice Cream Sandwiches. They’re delicious and appropriately named. I bought them the first time on a recommendation from a TJ’s team member who said that they had saved her marriage – more than once! They’re on me today. Enjoy.
